I think this has been asked before but I can't find it using search.

Where in the DFW area do you see the most yellow bass and when?

I know that most of you consider them a nuisance but I have never caught or eaten one. I have heard that White Rock lake has a bunch of them but I am not sure about eating fish from there.

Most all DFW lakes have yellow bass or bar fish. Lavon and Tawakoni are good spots. If you want some really great yellow bass action, Caddo Lake is probably the best in the state. Winter is the best time because they will school up on the bottom of river and creek channels this time of year and are easy to catch on small slabs. Despite what you might hear on the forum, they are good to eat and you can catch as many as you want. Make sure that it is indeed a yellow and not a sand bass because you will catch both and their appearance can fool an untrained eye and sand bass have size restrictions. Good luck, they fun to catch and for their size they are fierce little fighters.

Hubbard hands down winner!!! I can catch them by the bunches and I'm not even fishing for the pesky boogers..

Twak has some huge yellows in it..

10 lb. hybrid, 54 lb. cat on 3/4 ounce slab-- Hubbard

Yea dont eat anything out of White Rock Lake!! Caddo or Hubbard is your best bet. Never caught a yellow on Twak. But they are there.

I've caught 2lb yellows on t-wok. On BB they rarely reach a 1lb--most are only a could of oz and 4-5 inches long. Funny thing is you will catch them on a 2 oz slab

OK, sounds like Hubbard is the winner for me. About twice as far as LL but still not too far. I usually fish LL but have never caught a yellow bass there. Tons of white bass and the hybrids just keep getting better every year on LL but at this time of year I don't do so good. Time to look up muddy creek on google maps.

Thanks, everybody. smile

Lake lewisville is full of tellow bass( sand bass). Not to be cofused with white bass.yellow or sand bass almost allways have a yellow belly and thier last two lines on thier body downward from their dorsal fin is broken posteriour to the middle. and thier top dorsal fins touch, also their bottom lip dosn't extend past their top lip. the white bass top dorsal fins are seperated by a gap, their lower lip extends past their top lip, whites have one thoot patch were as yellow or sand bass have none. Now you have to pay close attention to what you are catching. On lake lewisville there is NO limit on yellow or sand bass and no minimum length. Now whites they have to be 10" in length and you can only have 25 per day.Watch out for hybrids also they look alot like whits when thay are young.Good luck. Mark

Nope you need to check out texas parks and wildlife on yellow(sand),whites strpier, & hybrides. Making a mistake could cost you alot of money. I have seen alot of posts here in the last year about cathing sand bass and whites, with pictures too,and calling them all sand bass. One needs to know what they are catching so one dosen't lose his ars.see tp&w on speices of fish.
