Last Thursday on Lake Austin there was a man in a black wet suit swimming about 50 yards out from the bank down the lake. Those of you who are familiar with Lake Austin know how busy it is which makes me wonder if this guy has a death wish? I signaled several boats headed in his direction and luckily no one ran him over while I could see him. Seeing him out there almost gave me a nervous breakdown. Please keep an eye out for the idiots and tight lines! JR

Good thing he didn't hit and killed, they probably would have found a way to blame it on hydrilla. Just like they did when the other smart one drowned.

I saw a woman in a white swimming cap out in the middle of that lake swimming across with boats blasting by both ways. I just knew she was going to die.... Then the other night, I was fishing just after dark, and a dude in a canoe with no lights is rowing down the middle of the lake. A bass boat came about 5 feet from him at almost full speed and almost tipped him. The bass boat slowed and turned and came back and the driver asked if he was alright. He didn't say much just kept going. What an idiot.

If any of these were on Lake Lewisville they'd be in the morgue.

What can these people be thinking? UNsafe is unsafe under almost all circumstances.

There is an IronHEAD tri this month at Joe Poole, I think it is an olympic distance... the Wisconsin Ironman is also in Sept, I know a bunch of guys going up for it. The reason I guessed Ironman, was by the fact the guy was wearing a wetsuite. I know you will need one in WI in Sept., but not here. They are illeagal if the water temp is above seventy-something.

When I practice open water swimming, I make sure I have a friend in a boat pacing beside me and fo sho', not in the middle of the lake!

All those folks are idiots, and they think it is their right to swim or canoe or bike where ever they wish.

Town Lake is the safe place to practice swimming or canoeing for that matter.

At any rate, it is their right to swim or bike or whatever, whereever, and whenever as the law permits... this is America. That doesn't mean that stupidity isn't lethal.

These are the same people who ride bicycles (two abreast,) on hilly, curvy, Hill Country two lane ranch roads with no regard to other vehicles. Although the law gives them right of way, I have a little trouble stopping my dually pick up, with a goose neck trailer full of horses, on a dime. In the eyes of the law I am sure they would be right, but 15,000 lbs of pure american production versus 200 lbs of bicycle and rider, who wins. I lived in Wimberley Texas for 26 years and have seen quite a few city folks with a God given right.
