Alright, How does everyone decide what color of jig they are going to throw for the day? Somedays when fishing is slow, I think I should just stick with the color i'm throwing, does water color, sky conditions, wind, rain, time of day, dictate your decision? it seems like black and blue is everyones fav.

Darker stained water, darker colors (black/blue). Clearer water, more natural colors (green pumpkin, pb&j, and watermelon for really clear water).

We all have our own theory on what the fish wants. I do agree with "adamat" though. Darker colors for the more muddy/murky water and more natural colors for the clear light water. I also like a black/red Wadda jig for the dark water.

Most of the time I go with colors that I have conficence in first and then begin experimenting with others with a couple of exceptions. If the bass are feeding heavily on shad I will throw a white or shad colored jig and trailer. If the water is fairly clear I will start out with a PB&J jig. Other than that I have three tied on. I will begin with a green/pumpkin jig, then try a black/blue tip or black/blue/purple, and then a black/brown/amber jig. In the spring I will begin with a green/pumpkin/orange jig and trailer.

If the water is murky I will throw something with some chartruce in it, either green/pumpkin/chartruce or junebug/blue/chartruce.

If it is cloudy I will go with jigs in blue or brown or junebug.

My go to colors are basic......brown/black, black/blue, green pumpkin. I try to best match the color of the crawdads, certain times of the year they are different colors. I just put together some finesse jigs today. I'm hoping these will work.

black jig, blue trailer... I catch 'em no matter the water with this. Size/weight makes more difference to me....

Size, weight, trailer, rattle and a QUALITY hook are all important factors to me (I'm anal about the hook...). After that, I usually fish crawfish colors in clear to stained water and black/chartruse or black/blue in heavily stained or muddy waters. Keep it simple on the colors...those other factors are much more important. And a good presentation is even more important!

I agree with okie for the most part...crawfish do change color throughout the year and change according to their surroundings..crafish that live in grassy areas have a tendency to be greenish (green pumpkin or watermelon) rocks and wood usually have grayish, brown or black crawfish (black and blue, black neon or my favorite black brown and amber. Remember later in the year crawfish begin to turn red, ususally around June to July. As far as swim jigs go I generally use white or some variation of white to mimic shad and p&b to mimic bream
