I've read that blood (chicken or beef) can be a great bait or chum for catfish. Is there a good commercial source, or another way to obtain blood for catfish?

You can buy chicken liver at most stores by the tub, and huge beef hearts at walmart. Either one will get ya some red stuff!

There is an excellent prepared bloodbait that is made somewhere in East Texas I believe. It is sold at fishermans supply off of I-30 in Garland. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the company, but they use chicken blood and mix some feathers in with it. It as as good as any blood bait I've ever used...and it saves you the trouble and mess of making it yourself. Maybe some of the guys here can help me with a name, or call the store I mentioned and ask who sells it close to you. I know someone does cause we talked about it last spring.

liver is prolly 90% blood ... catfish are predators & blood usually will attrack a predator ... some samll town slaughter houses may still sell some blood on the side ... i lived in haskell off & on for 38 years & i could take a ice cream bucket to the slaughter house & leave it ... they would call me when they killed sumpin & filled my bucket up with blood ... for many years they only charged me a buck

DuckCreek Davy, the chicken blood bait you are referring to is called Ray's Chicken Blood. I grew up around the lake Tawakoni area and I still have not found a better catfish bait than Rays Chicken Blood. You can use this bait on several different set ups!

I am not sure on the name of this bait, but it rocks.

I've hab excellent luck on "Danny Kings blood punch bait." You can get it Wal-mart. I caught a 26 in. 15lbs 9oz blue on it. Some butcher shops keep and sell the blood from their cuts. I bont know what you would put it as a bait. My grandfather would add gelatin to it. you might try bread too. jake77ihc@yahoo.com

blood meal. clean and easy to work with. and you can pick it up in any nursery or homedepot or lowes for cheap. and you don't need as much of it to bring them in as it settles to the ground.
