Howdy, Lake Waco has practically no vegetation so largemouth it seems are running deeper into structure. I'm looking for some tips on how to get them to bite. I've been texas rigging flukes 6" worms all assorted, dead stickin, rippin it and about 1/8 weighted...very few caught and far from in between. If my thought process is wrong, please correct me. HELP

look for deep water with rocks close to the bank, and deep water next to long points, and fish slow as posible, if you dont feel you weight bumping stuff on the bottom then slow down some more. also try square billed crank baits for more active fish. good luck

Pitch a jig to timber or rock.

I will tell you what has worked for me on lakes with little to no cover such as hydrilla. This time of year move out to 30 feet or deeper that drops to 45 feet and watch you electronics. A Navionics map or good contour map will help you tremendously. Look for schools of baitfish on quick drop offs where the contour lines are close together. Underwater point and ledges. Take a 3/4oz. CC Jigging spoon and hop it off the bottom. Try hopping it up quickly 2' or more and let it fall on a slack line. If that doesn't work try just moving the spoon off the bottom about 6" slowly. You may go through some sandbass or crappie to get to the bass. I don't use line smaller than 15lb Floro. You can catch some good fish doing this. Good Luck!

Great info, I have been hesitant to using heavier jigs. 1/2 and 3/4 due to how fast they fall. Being colder, it'd seem that the bass would want the bait to fall slower...I have gps'd some drop offs and will study the baitfish more. I do need to stick more to the bottom. THANKS and good luck.

Nitroman87, I use to be scared of the 3/4 to 1 ounce jigs too. But when fishing deep it will help keep that jig on the bottom and feel everything you come across, like rocks, sticks, etc. Most fish i catch will be on the bottom, or at least that is the ones I am trying to find. I am no deep expert but trying to get better and have learned alot this last year from guys that are extremly good in deep water. Keep asking questions and keep learning. Good luck!

Great idea in theory, but if you bait isn't in the strike zone it doesn't matter how fast it falls. I think we get a little too caught up on this and that and not on the fact that bait needs to be where the fish are first and foremost. To slow down heavy bait, just fish it slower. Let it soak a little longer on bottom and don't hop it. Gotta use a heavier bait to get it down there and keep it there.
