I was considering the i-Pilot trolling motor and happened to see the replacement price for that remote. $400! That is crazy!
So those that have this, is that remote tied down to your boat? Does the remote float? Do you just put a floating device on it like you boat keys?
Is the Co-Pilot remote worth getting? What is the point of having a second remote? Just for the other boater?

We always just put the remote on a lanyard and put it around our neck before we got on the water and would take it off when we pulled out. You could probably put like a sunglasses lanyard on them that would make them float? But a lanyard works fine. If you have a powerpole, put both remotes on one lanyard around your neck and you have all the power!
In saltwater, the 2nd remote was nice because when wade fishing, who ever was closest to the boat could steer the boat to them. You probably wouldn't need the remote for more than just a spare though.

I've got the i-Pilot remote, and the instructions specifically state that the remote floats. I'm not about to try to test that claim though.
In the boat, I keep it clipped to my belt loop with a carabiner. The rest of the time, I keep it in the tackle box in the garage.

I really like it, but then I'm pretty new to this stuff and I haven't used it to its full potential. I bought a 20 year old boat about six months ago for next to nothing and then put my money into a nice trolling motor.
I love the GPS anchor. Of course I had to use it once to hold my position while I changed out all the spark plugs in the outboard motor while sitting in the middle of the lake on a really windy day.
When I get more free time, I want to get back out and try out the feature that lets you follow pre-programmed tracks.

The remote floats, just keep it around your neck....go to youtube and type in lunkermachine and it will pull up my videos which show the i-pilot in action. I love it

When I went to go look at it today I was surprised to find out the foot pedal setup isn't included. That set me back some. Those that have the i-pilot do you have the foot controlled pedal? If not how do you go about fishing shallow and running your trolling motor?
I am not sure if this is going to work for me. I fish shallow and I get my boat is some spots that are very shallow and some times I will need to pull up my trolling motor some to where it is barely in the water and then steer myself out of a tight spot. In these situations is the i pilot trolling motors going to work out for me?

Mine came with the foot pedal. I didn't buy the i-Pilot separately. I got it with the motor.
As for adjusting the height... I'm not sure how convenient it would be to do on the fly. You may have to make an adjustment to the height stop first, which probably needs tools.

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for yours and what model/thrust do you have?

Now I have to think. I want to say it something close to 80 lbs. I also seem to remember it being on the order of $1500 for the whole thing at BPS in Katy. I do remember that it was full retail because I was impatient and didn't want to wait.

Ok thanks. That sounds right. It also looks like there is a transducer built into them so I can connect my Humminbird 797ci SI to it.
If anyone local to Dallas/ area has one and would allow me to come out on your boat to see it in action that would be great! My biggest concern is when I am needing to get out of very shallow areas. That seems to be my only set back right now.

Yes, it does have a built in transducer. You just need to buy the adapter for your unit.

I use one on my center console, the foot pedal is very handy. Not as fast turning as a foot control or hand control. You will be very busy trying to control your boat without the foot pedal.
