Report sewer discharge by homeowners to the authority operating the lake. You'll have a better chance of something actually getting done.

I have, but did'nt seem to do any good. Also reported several boathouses out on points that did'nt have a light, almost hit one after dark, but that did'nt do any good either. You know, if there is no profit in it, then nobody will do anything.

If you have never seen the process of treating wastewater call your local wastewater plant and see if they will give you a tour of the plant. Most cases the water that leaves the plant is better than what is in the river or lake. When I was in high school we took a tour of a sewage treatment pland. I have to say it was one of the most disgusting yet informative tours I've ever taken and I recommend everyone doing it at least once. I'm with them, report anyone that you think is doing wrong. Its for the better

Interesting topic, I work in the water utilities field, have for the last 30 years. Onsite sewer discharges around lakes has always been an real issue. A point that TP1956 missed is storm water run off from non-point sources. Spend sometime in the water shed areas and see where most people dump trash and other unwanted items. Usually in bar ditch or low water crossing or creeks, it all ends up in the rivers and streams. Better yet go to any larger parking lot (wal-mart) and see how much trash is on ground, along with stryo cups, oil, baby diapers and such. All that ends up in streams, rivers and lakes following a rain event. So dont just blame the WWTP, there are plenty of others who trash our water ways....

I pee in the lake 5 or 6 times when I go to the lake. No one has reported me. Think about that, did I pollute the whole lake?
I am sure some lakes have treatment plants close by that do a less than average treatment process. However, for the most part the water is fine, plus it is treated again before we consume it. Majority of the discharge from sewer plants is treated properly. Otherwise operators face huge fines and loss license and jobs. I work for a Water Utility as well and we send our waste water to TRA I know they do a good job. Lakes have natrual defense like algea and bacteria that disolve and consume waste before the treatment for drinking surface water begins. But if you worked for a Utility that sent failed samples in and they let you continue to operate, well sir I find that hard to believe.

Actually the TCEQ is right. Discharges from a licensed wastewater (sewer) treatment plant are probably some of the least harmful, and in most cases beneficial, sources of water for a reservoir. Unregulated discharges can be a problem, but those are thankfully few and far between. At's what makes 'em catfish grow so big and healthy!!
