Since Berkeley doesn't make their big game mono in a 17#, can anyone recommend a good 17# mono?

I use 20lb clear big game mono if I am not using braid... Lost too many fish on 15#... This doesn't answer your question... But I have tried a lot of other monos and keep going back to 20# BG...

davidl, I asked about this a few weeks ago.Tried the P-line CX, but it broke easy.....could have been a bad spool. Now I fixin' to try some 17 XT.For some reason, just not comfortable throwing 20 B/G, since I'm Old School and use mono on all my reels.

Try 17lb P-Line CXX Moss green. You will not be breaking it easily I can assure you. CX is a Fluoro coated line and it is thin. You need CXX not CX. Trilene 17lb XT is also really strong.

Try P-Line CXX 17lb moss green it is really strong. You tried the Fluoro coated CX line it is not nearly as strong. Also Trilene 17lb XT is really strong too.

I use 17# Cajun red mono. It may not be the best, but it's cheap and has yet to fail me.

I tested 15 BG against a couple other popular #17's, and the BG stretched more, and didn't break as easily as the other two. 20 BG is too bulky for me though. I stick with 15 and have no problems.
