Never been there before but I am planning our family vacation for August. We go to Florida every year but not this one. We are gonna try something different. In Florida we visit where I grew up (Cocoa beach area) so I know my fishing spots and what to expect. So with that being said, what can I expect mid August down at South Padre? I love to catch snook and I've heard they can be caught at SPI. Thanks in advance for the info.

was there late july last year. i have good luck surf fishing ,jetti is good to , we also fished pirates pier under lights with my teenage son. we caught several trout from pier and had good time. save the $ on party boat it's was a flop for us and have heard the same from others. i have heard the of shore trips where much better even with the same crew and boats.
i didn't have chance to wade much but there is some good places .
i will be going down in early march anyone have any spring fishing advice would be greatly appreciated.thanks to all

My favorite wading places are Holly Beach Rd, north of the SPI Convention Center, and next to the Coast Guard Station.

Kayaking, Holly Beach Rd, north of the SPI Convention Center, Mexiquita Flats, South Bay and Bahia Grande.

For Snook, your best bets are the jetties and Brownsville Ship Channel. There are two bridges on the Brownsville-Port Isabel Highway that offer good snook fishing and access. Snook are primarily nocturnal feeders, so fish at night if you can near lights.

I'm a topwater junky, so I would be tossing my Bone Spook Jr most of the time. Your soft plastic du jour in plum/chartreuse, pumpkinseed/chartreuse (aka rootbeer/chartreuse) and strawberry/white (aka red/white). Gold and silver spoons and a DOA shrimp under a mauler type cork rounds out my SPI tackle bag. Don't know too much about snook, but a DOA Shrimp and soft plastics in glow or white is what I would start with.

Sorry to piggy-back an old thread but I also am going to be down there in Aug. 18th through 24th to be exact. I def plan on fishing the convention center but would love to have other options as well. Can anyone also provide info on the types of fish one can expect to catch in Aug? I will most likely be wading or trying to find a pier I can fish off of. Thanks.

I'm a 'Floridian' and let me tell you the fishing here is outstanding compared to Florida. This area here in Texas can't be beat as far as catching fish!! You will be pleasantly surprised! fish
