I have fish in saltwater all my life and now wanting to go freshwater fishing. I have the right rod and reel but don't know much about hook or bait for freshwater. Any info on that would be appreciated.

Does anyone know where to fish around Houston? I been to Houston lake but sa no one fish nor anywhere to fish so any recommended place around Houston or a hour outside would work.

The area I go for to hunt for fish in freshwater would be Jesse Jones Creek off FM1960 and 59North. Nice decent bass there just have a license because precint 4 warden is always there.

Fishin' out of a boat of off the bank?

You can try lake Conroe North of town or Sheldon Reservoir Northeast of town, There is Lake Woodlands, also North of town.

There are also a lot of private fishing clubs South of town (Brazoria County) most of which provide boats.

The Lakes of Danbury is a nice one. There are several others, including a club I own near to Danbury. Mine is currently full, but I'm working on a waiting list.

Generally I work in fresh water but fish in saltwater (Chocolate Bayou and West Bay).

I fish off the bank. No boat yet x.x

Love the "yet" part. I fished only from the bank for a very long time before getting a "fishing boat" (got plenty of work boats).

Lake Woodlands has a few bank access places, try "North Shore Park." I see the carp guys go there and do pretty good off the bank under the road bridge.

Unfortunately its easy to find where folks have been fishing, they leave a lot of trash behind. I try and pick up whenever I see such a mess, but some are overwhelming. Makes me wanna puke, and also ashamed as fishermen should know better.

Did an electrofishing survey on that lake last year, not many bass, but the ones there are BIG. A lot of channel catfish and crappie, though.

You can rent a kayak (other side of lake from the park) and fish out of it there also.

There are a lot of fish in the bayous around Houston, even the concrete ones. Never fished in them but have walked along the banks and seen all manner of fishes.

While working in the ship channel doing fish collections with the shocker, gill nets and traps I found a few places folks were getting in and bank fishing. One spot, right under I10 on Greens Bayou had a ton of blue cat around it. I'd surely not eat anything from THAT place, but the fishing must be good.

What do you want to fish for? You could come out and join us for some carp fishing one day if you'd like.

Went to lake woodlands and it look like a park lol also went to lake conroe yesterday for maybe 5 hours and left with nothing. Went up to lake livington this morning and walked home with 2 white bass 4 catfish and 1 buffalo. Know my favorite spot now even tho it's nearly 2 hours drive.

How far are you willing to go to fish? Somerville has plenty of parks you can bank fish from - Fayette County has a couple of fishing piers - Conroe - Livingston.....

The farest I went is to Livingston. Thats less than 2 hours drive but I can go farther if theres actually fish.

Conroe is shorter drive but I have been there twice and not once did I get a single bit.

Go to the north end of conroe. The stubblefield area. Good bank fishin up there and if you see an 18 ft Kenner with 2COOL on the console say hi. If no one is with me I will give you a ride. I also fish below the livingston dam, lake livingston, bedias creek, white rock creek and etc.... I chase a lot of whites and catch a lot of whites.

I fish at the livingston dam twice. Love it there. First time I went there. I counted probably 5 boat not including 3-4 kayak. Great place just cost to park.

By "north end" do you mean THIS?

Further north, Stubblefield Lake area. Water is low and you can walk the bank and catch some crappie. If the water stays low you will be able to walk the bank and catch whites soon.

Where you pointed to on the map is a private development; don't know if you can get access to it.
Go to where the Stubblefield Rd crosses the river (uppermost part of the lake). That's where he's talking about.
Most success comes from hiking to different bank spots just above the bridge where you can cast to the channel (just past the stumps) for crappie, and in a month or so for white bass.
Also so big grass carp in there as well as some nice catfish.
For crappies either use minnows beneath a bobber or some crappie jigs also beneath a bobber. You'll have to play with it a bit before you find the right depth and right stump.
I take my kayak up there occassionally, generally this time of year, for white bass and crappie. Good eating and fun to catch!
