The issue is your bait sitting in the bot boat in the 90+ degree heat and often times in the sun. The variance between cool bait in a cooler and the water temp will not be enough to cause any problems. As long as you can keep your bait on the hook 15-20 minutes you will be just fine, any longer than that and you still have a hook in the water with bait on it, you need to pack up and move and rebait anyway, so it's not an issue. ------------------ Visit The Hottest Texas Catfishing Site On The Internet Texas Catfishing Resource

LDB, the RedneckTexan and I concure 100%. If anything, you hope it will do a little "melting" after it hits the water. Fifteen to twenty and leave if nothing is happening. They aren't active, or they aren't there! ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com [This message has been edited by MikeC (edited 05-14-2002).]

I keep hearing people talking about thickening their DK up..but mine is hard as a rock...I have had it about 1 month..and used it twice. I put mine on the hook and throw it out and it falls off before it hits the water. Did I get a bum batch.

Shawn, get you a real strong stick and try stirring hound out of that punch bait. If this doesn't soften it, get just a tiny bit of vegetable oil and add to it and repeat the process. If this don't help....Well, now you know why I am always saying, I don't like to use fresh punch bait. I'm telling you guys, if you will dump that punch bait in a five gallon bucket and toss a towel over it (somewhere that the cats and dogs can't get to it.) Stir it every couple of days for about a week. Then put it back in the gallon buckets and go store it in the barn for about a year. Then you got something worth going fishing with! ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com

I tried the regular formula (which did well), but when I ran out of that, I sent my wife to go get more. She grabbed the garlic formula though. It doesn't seem to stay on the hook near as long. Every time I reel in to check my bait, the hooks are completely clean. With the regular formula there was at least some slimy stuff still on the hook. Should I try thickening it up, did I just get a 'runny' batch or what???

Shawn Sounds like your bait is just cool and fresh. I would not thin it at all, because the weather will likely do it for you. What causes punch baits to thin is a combination of heat and water, Bait sitting in the 100 degree Texas sun makes it thin, and everytime you rebait, you drop a little water in the bucket, although it is probably not a lot. A combination of these things thins the bait, which when it gets too thin, becomes a problem. Give it some time and let the Texas Summer get rolling and you too will be thickening your bait with the rest of us. Does anyone know where to get any Danny King punch bait in the Midland, Odessa, or Abilene area? I know it can be ordered online, but I'm a little short on time. Thanks for your help, George

You have convinced me. Can you point me at any bait shops in the Lake Lavon or Ray Hubbard areas that carry Danny Kings Punch Bait.

Catfisheater, at the risk of getting shot by JP for doing this....contact mikesnow@swbell.net. He is supposed to be one of DK's distributors in North Texas. He can rattle the names of several places to get it in the area you want. And, rattle on, and on, and on he will likely do! Wingnut, I'm sorry I can't help you. But, since Danny began his bait business in Vernon before be became an Okie, I would have thought for sure he would have established a good West Texas distribution network?? But, I don't know?? ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com

catfisheater, they've got all three flavors of danny king's at Fisherman's Supply on I30 near Ray Hubbard. The original is my favorite.

Went to Joe Pool saturday around 6 pm. Put in some DKPB and my wife fished with minnows. The wind was out of the north and I only caught one. She caught 15 Whites and two crappie under the light.
This was the same spot I originally fished DKPB but the weather conditions were much different. Im going back this Friday.

Mike, I wait only about 30 seconds before I decide there's nothing there, or that if there is, it's not really interested. I have found that catfish will hit really quickly if you find them, and if you have to wait 20 minutes, you are pretty much hoping one comes by.
