Im a half a^% crappie and white bass fisherman. I usually use lights to fish at night because I need action. I have caught a few cats in my life but have never dedicated a trip to it, until now.
I seldom read the catfish forum but did when I first discovered TFF. After reading about Danny Kings Punch Bait I looked for it everywhere I went. Finally I ordered it over the internet.
Today I took half the day off and went to Joe Pool. Launched at Lynn Creek and fished the bridge. I will admit I took some minnows just in case the crappie were biting but I wanted mostly to see if I could catch cats.
What a day! Im hooked. This stuff stinks like h&%$ but it stays on the hook. I fished of the back of my boat and my hummingbird picked up my egg sinker and it sat a couple of feet off the bottom. I literally could see the cats come in to my DKPB.
I caught 18 but only caught 9 that were over 12 inches. I had the best time I have had in a long time fishing. It was constant, it was easy and best of all, my first cat trip was a success.
Heres to you Danny King and TFF!

Welcome aboard the Danny King catfish boat, Mr. Dodd. Not only does the bait work better than any I have ever used, you'll find that Mr. King and his family are the nicest folks to deal with, too. I understand that crappie addiction, because they taste awfully good. Just be sure to stop in here once in a while and say hello. If you keep using Danny King's I have a feeling you'll be a permanent fixture here, though.

It is a Humminbird 400 plus. It has a 200khz, single beam. I might add I was using a pretty hefty egg sinker and I had my sensitivity trimmed up to plus 3.
My wife, somehow, bought me this unit as a gift when I was about to buy the base model mainly for depth purposes.
I took some bread with me for a sandwich. I crumbled it up and through it up-wind from my boat. I could see it travel under my boat on my unit, no joke.
If you dont believe me Ill be there in the morning. Feel free to email me at Howell.Dodd@my2way to see how im doing. I carry a wireless email device on my boat for work and family reasons.

Hal, what Larry is offering you about fishing that punch bait in the backs of a creek near some heavy brush is absolutely sage advice. I carry and use punch bait dang near exclusively, because it never goes bad sitting in a storage area of my boat, and even when I'm crappie fishing, I some times like to hang an old cat pole out also. But, what Larry tells you about the larger cats....if you fish under a bridge that is deeper than say 15 feet, it will be the rare occasion that you catch a big kitty there. I'm not going to say never, but while you are waiting under that bridge for him....Larry and I will be sacking them up in the cover in the backs of the creek using the same bait. Sure does my heart good to hear we have a new converted catman! ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com

I was using Danny Kings last week and it was only about 80 degrees, but it was enough to really thin out the punch bait and I couldnt keep a big chunk of it on my hook. Even at room temperature punch bait is still not very thick. I added some dryer lint and it seemed to help some. Does everyone usually add stuff to their punch bait to thicken it? If so what do you recommend (I don't know where to get cattails near my home town)

LDB, to get cattails near your home town, I bet you haven't thought about sneaking out to the golf course in the fall of the year. You can't get cattails this time of year even if you did have some. But, the water ways around most golf course are covered with cattails. :-) I use quaker oatmeal as a stiffener (you simply want something that will absorb the excess moisture). It works fair. Another thing to do is keep the bait in your cooler on some ice if you can't do anything else to get it to stiffen. I had heard the dryer lint would work from Minnowseine I think?? ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com

Danny king makes a winter bait and a summer bait ..if you have winter bait in the summer you can either add cattails or cotton, just tear it up and put in the bait..or if you come to the tourament june29th tell danny to give you some cattails...good fishing larry

Yep, I use dryer lint with great success. But, I use it to absorb the water that is going to accumulate in the bucket from baiting and not for when the bait has gotten hot and melted.
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I prefer to do laundry with unscented undyed soap and scent free dryer sheets. I don't want to change the scent of Danny's bait at all. That's why cat tails are best, but since I can't get any right now I have to make due.
Keep your Danny King in a gallon freezer bag and keep it in the house. (Mine is all sitting on the dining room table. It's my house, and that bait deserves to be a centerpiece. hahaha.)
When you go out in the heat put it in a small cooler on ice. Or, keep it in the shade on moderately warm days.
And, I'll third what MikeC and spil1 say. In deeper water I've got a ton of fish...in the 4 to 10 inch range! Get to the shallows and catch some big fish.
Have fun and be safe.

A tried a tip from Benny Roberts of Sure Shot Punch Bait this weekend, which was to use shredded toilet paper to thicken the bait up. I did so and it worked really well (I used it along with Mikes oatmeal trick). Bugabass had a good thought also, which was to use that white pillow cotton fiber stuff that is used to stuff pillows with. I rummaged through my wifes stuff and managed to dig a big bag of this stuff out and tested this out on Sunday, and it worked REALLY well, although it was kind of stringy and I had to work a little harder to keep from pulling the whole bucket full of bait out of the bucket. At the end of the day, it is STILL EASIEST to just keep your bait cool. No matter uhow hard you try when it starts getting soft, you end up spending more time messin with your bait bucket then you do wathcing your rod.... Update: I went out this weekend and took my daughter catfishing. After loading all her BS I got to the lake and discovered I had forgot my DK Punch bait. I went back to the marina and all they had was Mr. Whiskers Cheese Bait. I will admit the consistancy was good but I didnt do as well as I did with DKPB.
Im going tomorrow with my DK to catch a few more.

as for keeping punch bait cool what about when you cast it in the water and the water temperature is higher? won't this make it come off easier?
