This is my 87 year old WWII Veteran, 30 Year GM Union Man Grandfather.
I simply call him my hero and I still get to fish with him!

Fishing on Toledo Bend (where he lives) has been incredible! The fish are just flat stacked in the grass. Rattle Trap and shakey have been killing em. Watermelon Red on a Spot Remover has been deadly!

This is a 5.4lber he caught Saturday before the front on the ol Shakey! I love that now I take his fish off his hook. Talk about coming full circle.

THANK YOU POP, I LOVE YOU!

To those that were so kind and asked his name:

My grandfather is Walen Nick Nixon. I am so proud to have spent my life with him. I will forever be grateful for being his son. I say that because he raised me.
When the Arlington General Motors plant opened 60 management personnel got badges and then the hourly men. My grandfather still proudly carries badge 62 from the Arlington plant in his wallet. Also, he was the COFFEE man at the Arlington GM Plant man for the last 8 years he spent there. You see the Coffee man is the guy that collects the change and one dollar bills from the working men and buys the coffee for an area or floor. The coffee man is considered the most honest man around and my grandfather retired as the coffee man in 1977. In 30 years at GM he NEVER missed a single shift and was late ONE time, that day in 1950 my mom was born. I remember the day he came home at lunch with two new rods and two 5500c reels that the men bought him for his retirement. As an 8year old I thought he retired a King!
Walen Nick Nixon saw action in Italy, raised his family and still had time to take me fishing.

THANK YOU ALL FOR GETTING TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY HERO!

It's early in the year, but I nominate this for "Best Post of the Year"!!!

Best post and pic I've seen in some time. I'll bet your G-Pa will get a bigger kick knowing he's "Worldwide" now!

Tell him I said "Thank You for your sacrifice so I can keep fishing instead of growing rice or cabbage"!!!

Sincerely,

-Alton

Awesome!

Go with him as much as you can! The memories will be priceless!

I'll be there in March and I can't wait!

Great pic and story. PaPa's are the best. Mine was and I hope someday my grandchildren can say the same.
