We ran our juglines the first of december and we caught our first flathead. 48LBS. What a first flathead. Boy was that thing ugly. My buddy took it home and forgot to get a photo. Man that thing was big. Wouldn't fit in his livewell. Oh well looking for your biggest flathead and how you caught it. I am hooked on them big fish now.
Drop it in front of them and they will eat it!!!

Largest went 40 lbs. Caught it on a trotline in the Brazos one morning before class. I have caught several high 30's in the Brazos and Lake Waco as well. I will get a 50 this year.

the first time we ever set drop lines, me and my buddy were both 14yrs old and didn't know much about river fishing. set lines on the Colorado around La Grange. the next morning i found myself tangling with about a 60+ lb yellow, needless to say the fish won and i ended up on my back in the bottom of the aluminum boat. Since then I've caught 3 between 40-45 and probably five between 30-40
Congrats, thats a great first fish

My first flathead was my biggest 58 lb. 3 oz. in 11-97. I have caught 9 flatheads this year up to 30 lbs. only 1 of them has been catfishing, the rest have been bass fishing with plastics and jigs.

My one and only was about 1.5 lbs. Caught last weekend on a pineapple snowman rig while carp fishing. Snowman rig is 2 boilies, one floating above the other. Looks just like a snowman made from yellow snow if you use pineapple Cats LOVE a snowman!

My first and only flathead came out of lake travis.
We were camping and I couldn't sleep so I went down to the bank and threw out a nightcrawlwer. As I was fallin' asleep my rod went all crazy and I reeled in a little flathead. He was only about 16" but I was sure happy to catch the ugly little guy!!! First one I've seen close up.

The biggest yellow cat I have ever seen, I DID NOT CATCH IT, weighed 92#'s! It was caught in the Brazos river at Kimball Bend on a perch baited trotline where the river makes a bend to go to Chisholm trail around the big rocks on the Bosque county side of the river, I was 11 years old & it was longer than I was tall! They had him in a cement minnow vat & his tail was bent around! That suckerbill was massive!I have caught plenty of yellow cats in my time, but none to beat that one! my biggest was 40#'s last spring on perch in 3.5 ft of water on a trotline, that same time I got him, I had a 20#'er, 4 channels 3-5#'s each! That was a good haul that day!I love to fish, I love catching a lot more though! LOL! Good fishing & Merry Christmas to all! TLP

My biggest was 43 pounds on rod and reel. This is my thing. I fish for nothing else. I am offended by some of you saying it is ugly. This has to be the best looking fish that ever swam. At least on the end of my pole. Best eating fresh water fish ever.

I gots to agree with you, they are not ugly & they are pretty dang good eatin' too, don't care what size they are either, if a fella knows how to prepare them 'ole big'uns, they are just as good as a 5#'er!

Help us youngsters out. How do you prepare a big one. I know they are alot more muc=scular than a blue. We have caught a few blues over 15 lbs and they are just fat.
Drop it in front of them and they will eat it!!!

The 1st thing I do with a big cat is to kill him first, then hang him up, cut his tail off & let him bleed out, then skin with a good pair of pliers. Take a good sharp knife & cut the meat all off the backbone in a big hunk of meat. Cut ALL the red meat off all the way to the white meat, then start fileting into thinner strips of meat, I lkie mine about the size of 3 fingers held together, wash thoroughly & freeze in ziplok freezer bags of SALT water. Some like the belly meat, I do not, on a big yellow, take all the meat off the head too, it is a delicacy! That is the way I was taught ot do it, others have their own way, mine seems to have always been good for me. Hope this helps. I do not care for blue cats, I will give them away or turn them loose if I have channels or yellows on the stringer. It's all what one prefers!

My apologies for calling the yellow cat ugly!! It was meant in an affectionate sort of way!!! I just need to catch more of them I guess. The blue cat in my sig pick is cute too, ain't he??
