What do you recommend for a 18' boat for trolling motor size? I currently have a 70lb and might be replacing it

The bigger you can get, the better you can handle the boat in the wind and waves

I would go with an 80...Stick with the Minn Kota...The Motorguide mount is the most irritating thing I have ever used...Not just in mine but others as well..Watch people deploy a Motorguide..They have to step on it to release the motor...

Not trying to start an argument but I have the Motorguide Digital Tour 24V-82lb. thrust trolling motor on my 18.5 ft. boat and I have never had to step on the trolling motor to depoy it. I just pull the rope and put it in the water. BTW, 24V-82lb. thrust moves an 18.5 ft. boat very well.

No arguement for sure..That has been my personal experience with them in both my and other's boats..I even watched Shaw Grigsby do it the other day on his show..I am glad you have one that works for you.

I have a 17.5 ft aluminum and my 55 (when it used to run correctly) would almost throw me out of the boat on speed 5 if I wasn't careful.

I've thought about going with a 24V 70 before. Still might do it!

70 or 80 lb Digital Minn Kota.

The motor your having trouble with is a 5 speed. The digital is a variable speed. meaning you have more speed control.

If you want me to fix the 5 speed bring it on by the shop.
You can either use that one as a back up or sell it to recoup some money from the new purchase.

I sell em new as well.
