Hey Thanks Dragon,
I lived in Utah for 9 great months back in 1996 sure miss the trout. And talkabout tons of easy catching White bass. I forget the name of the lake south of Orem on I15 along the West mountains, but it was laoded with themand the locals treated'em as trash fish!

Back to the topic...whats with the little boxes you see at Walmarts for worm beds. Are those simply a way to keep a few dozen worms alive longer thana week or two as im guessing?

Heck I got a small Spare fridge in the Garage we use for extra drinks and for my Bait etc.
Wife wouldnt care If I had small worm box in the house either til one got out then Id be in the garage too! laugh

I lived in Southern Utah for 4 years. Cedar City to be specific. We often fished a lake called Newcastle that was absolutely FILLED with Rainbow Trout, and Smallmouth bass, some huge fish too. We had days where we'd limit out on both by early in the morning, and fish all day letting the rest go. Miss that lake! My dad also caught his biggest bass over out of another big lake down there...I can't think of what it's called but I believe it's the lake where the Utah state record largemouth came from, lotsa big fish in there. Though at the time I was too young to really appreciate it lol, wish I could go back and get those smallies again, and try for some carp hehe.

As for Nightcrawlers we used to have a big worm box in our fridge too, a spare fridge we used for bait and drinks, but now we just have the one. We filled a huge worm box with worm bedding and fed them worm food once a week, put like, 10 dozen worms in it and just dug a few dozen out whenever we needed them, restocked it now and then and never had a problem with worms.

I've kept them up to two months in the fridge without feeding. They were as lively and plump as the day I bought them. For the humane worm farmer, I guess feed them. As a kid I had my own worm farm. I would feed corn meal about once a week.

Ok, texas worms seems to be gone, but they were selling european nightcrawlers...a quick google will get you 200 fishing worms or 1.5 pounds of bed worms for $35 plus s&h....guess I'll try them next. Them foetida/red worms were just too small to bother raising to fish with.

One way I know to harvest your own worms is to lay a gunnysack down in a corner of your garden or flowerbeds and keep it wet. In a couple of days you'll have all the worms you want.

Kevin, a healthy population of earthworms is a sign of an equally healthy lawn. Those worms are natures aeraters and the casings are high in nutrients your yard needs. Just rake them into the soil every now and then.

Hello everyone, this is my 1st time here.

I am presently keeping about 100 nightcrawlers for personal use. I keep them in an old fridge at about 45deg. I feed them chicken feed about once a month. I lost the 1st batch after 9 months because when I went to get some out the food got mixed into the spagnam moss and caused bacteria to grow. I read about this after they died.

My guestion is, how can I get some out to use and not stir the food into the medium?

I hope it's ok to fish, hunt, shoot, ride motorcycle, chase women & drink beer after you retire, cause I'm still doin' it!

Get a worm box that you can open from either end. They head for the bottom every time. Either that or keep you container upside down.

How in the world did you pull up a thread 7 years old?

Dedicate one spot in the bed for feeding. Only dig there when you're changing out the bedding material in that specific area .

I just searched for "Raising Nightcrawlers" and jumped in. It automaticly goes to the top of the thread.
