Does the rod go all the way to the end of the handle or does the handle attach to the end of the rod? I would like to replace the handle on a G-Loomis can this be done or is it a pain and not worth it. I dont know how rods are built but are the handles glued on? Really like the CRB handle like an old flipping stick i use to own. can a handle be made longer?

To be honest I would say that it's not worth messing with.. The blank does extend all the way to the butt cap of the rod. Handles are glued in so you would have that to mess with as well. It could be done but I would suggest you have a custom rod built with the CRB handle.

Most blanks will extend the length of the handle..Ive seen a few makers use an extension piece which I think is a little rarer.....Just depends on who made the rod. Im sure the Loomis is all the way through. You can extend the handle/blank if you want to....Extending the blank ,however, will increase the action of your rod's taper. The longer the faster, the shorter the slower...Just an FYI. Ive done a few handle extensions...Their not hard, but do require alot of work because of all the fine sanding of the old epoxy..Then prepping a new piece of graphite to use as the extension piece..You can PM me and I will help ya as best I can if you decide to do it. Here's a spinning rod handle extension I did a long time ago on a cheap BPS rod...I use an old Pinnacle rod that I cut down and shimmed with masking tape to fit tightly inside the BPS blank. Epoxied it into place...Then re-did a new reel seat and eva grips..Little thread wrapping and finish to cover up the imperfections I couldnt sand out....The reel seat sits right over the connection. Good luck! Walker

The other thing to consider is you will have to strip the rod down to the blank. You can't use an exposed blank reel seat or proper fitting grips if you don't remove the guides and forgrip. Everything has to go on from the tip and slide down the blank to form a snug fit.

Walker You make some really nice Rods. I need to do some searching and see what all i want to do to the Loomis. Its a older rod and needs some grips and a eye was fixed by me but not very good.So taking the eyes off and redoing the whole thing would not be a problem.I have not ventured off into rod building but looks like fun.I have a background in composite aircraft, boats, cars guess thats why it looks fun or maybe its i miss the smell of epoxy in the morning?I need to do some more research in rod building.

Actually, if you want to use a 2 pc reel seat, you can install it from the butt end. You will have to build the blank up a little. I've used the fiber mesh that is used for drywall repairs to build up the diameter of the blank until the reel seat pcs fit well.

What epoxy is best to use for this .That being said,I know there is different grades and preferences.I have a few gallons of west marine i used on some projects. What are your opinions on Something that can be bought local rather than the stuff sold on the rod builders sites?I have a bunch of old pistol grip rods i think i will practice on. Thanks for the tips

If you do an extension inside the original blank..You may actually have a smaller diameter at the butt (like the one I pictured) Should make installing any reel seat easier.
As far as epoxy.(You mean for installing reel seats and grips,right?)..I use clubmaker golf shafting epoxy for grips and reel seats...It a two part epoxy, somewhat user friendly and when it dries its an absolute beast!!
I think Walmart carries it...bout 10-12 bucks...If not I know Golfsmith does.
