Anyone use oil other than Johnson XL 100 in their E TEC engine? I am running a 2007 225 E TEC.

I use the 50. I have a 2010 ETEC 250HO. I was told the older ones had to be set up to run one or the other. The 100 burns less but costs more

don't know where you live but if your near Rockwall Marine East of Dallas, they sell the 100 cheaper than anyone I know of...they pump from a 55gal drum into their own 1gal container for under $30...might of had a price increase since the first of the year, I bought a few Gal for my 2010 200HO in the Fall and just poured the last of it in...so I'll be heading there real soon !

I am in the North Houston area and Strack Marine sells the XL 100 in bulk also. I am curious if anybody uses different brands of 2 cycle oil (Pennzoil, Quicksilver, etc)in their E Tec. Obviously the dealer says not to but sometime they have a little different motive!

If I had access to the 100 oil at around $30/gal I would use it. That is a good price. I have had 2 Etec's an '06 225, and my current '09 250 other than the first tank oil from the dealer both my engins have been ran exclusively on pennzoil full synthetic. around $28. The etec xd 50 is a synthetic blend, and the xd100 is a full synthetic. Thus the reson I choose the penzoil full syn. never a problem, runs clean, no smoke, etc.

Check out amsoil they make oils for all applications and if you become a preferred customer or a dealer you get a good discount too. I have used it in my jet skis and four different boats now and have never had a problem.

I use XD100 in my 09 ETEC 250 HO. It sounds like I will be stopping by Rockwall Marine for that price. The best I have have found is the high $30s.

Doma-online has XD-100 (6-1gal)for around $34.00/gal. Shipping will run around $5.00/gal. (UPS to your front door) Strack marine informed me they no longer carry bulk. Gander Mountain gets $59.99/gal.

I use the XD100 in my '05 only bc thats all that has ever been in it. I get mine in bulk at a shop by Lake Travis $36.00 a gallon, but it lasts a long time.

I don't know about E-Tecs but I finally got over the fear of running only Merc oil in my Opti--I've come to believe it's a farce marketing thing.
My Opti hs been running over 200 hours on Penzoil without a problem and it costs 1/2 the price.
Maybe it's the same situation with E-Tecs?

I run the hd 100 in a 1998 150 Johnson on a tr 18. This oil dose not smoke at all! I do my own maintenance and the plug come out clean after a year. The penz-oil has gotten a lot of bad pres on the i-boat forums. My engine starts easier and idles smoother than when my boat was running the low dollar merc oil. When I go to the lake the amount of oil I use is a minor cost. I want the best protection I can get!! A new power head is not cheep!
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

Rockwall Marine also has Mercury Premium plus and Merc DFI oil in bulk as well. I stock up on oil for my ProXS every time I'm there and pick up a few gallons of XD-100 for my bud in Tulsa as well.
