I get a bit confused as to the proper edicate when trying not to disturb a fellow fisherman while fishing the same area. I tell my husband my best guess is that on open water, we should not be close enough to really see whats going on in the other boat, so 200 yards more or less. Fishing a bridge, well you just do your best. Its only so wide..
I've seen where guys are fishing their boats almost shoulder to shoulder and nobody thinks its bad manners. And I've seen where a guy will waste almost an entire day of fishing because another boat was parked where the fish were holding. In that case it seemed rude to fish anywhere at all near the other guy.

Depends If they are horizontal fishing you can get much closer If they are casting i would certainly stay out of casting distance but 200 yards seems extreme imo!!!!

For me it depends on the lakes size, and how crowded it is,on some lakes you cant help but fishing around people within 50 yards at times. One rule of thumb is not to cut in front of someone and start fishing.I always fall in behind people at a reasonable distance,if the lake is fishing small. On a bigger sized lake,i will just go find fish at another location,i see no sense in being crowded if i dont have to be.

I meant 200 ft, oops. The guy that wouldnt go near the other boat was a dropping it down situation, not casting. Maybe too cautious.

When fishing down a bank and we come head on to each other I take the inititive and go wide around them. If they are beating the bank then I dont feel you have to go to wide around on the lake side. Usually try to stay a looooong cast away when passing.

Would have answered the question earlier if I knew how to translate edicate . Etiquette.... probably French in origin, means how to be nice and proper. All these answers are correct, especially " don't be close enough to tie up to the other boat ". Some of us don't understand , much too close. Had it happen.

I shall not participate in civil discord, always give them plenty of space. Besides, I'm sure I'm not the only one 'packing'.
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

Wow, thats some seriously bad spelling on my part. Now I feel like I fit in a little more. Sounds like Im being way too cautious.
