I have my boat in a slip, and i always tilt it up to get the lower unit out of the water. Is there a risk of it freezing in the winter? Is it better to leave the lower unit submerged in the winter?
I know people with I/O engines winterize them, but do we need to do anything special for outboards?
I plan on using it hopefully at least once a month during the winter, is that enough to keep it in good running order?
thanks, T

I would think that if ur prop if out of the water and the hub facing the sky that water could "pool" in the lower unit and freeze and possibly cause gear case problems, id just leave it trimmed down in the water, best thing for outboard winterizing is to change the lower unit oil and run a good fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank and keep the tank fuel during storage

If you haven't changed the lower unit oil recently, then you don't know whether it's got any water in it, and if it does, there's a risk of it freezing, unless you leave the motor down. The lake is unlikely to freeze.
