. If I hadn't got a life membership in 1070 I probably would have quit taking it. How old are you?

I've received it for over 20 years, and have seen some ups and downs. But, I still like it, and it makes me feel like a part of big group of people with whom I can relate.
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

90 pages, 50 ads....40 articles that are ads as well. Nothing is less appealing to me than to read an article from someone that says "With my Shimano reel and Duckett rod with my seaguar line and my strike king 4s in sexy shad..." +1000, I feel the same way. It really shoots down the credibility of the article in my opinion.

I've wasted $15.00 on worse things. Still a pretty decent read to me.

Been a member since 1980 and have kept every issue. Funny to look back from time to time and see how things have changed. should have sighed up for a lifetime membership years ago. just like I should have sighed up for a lifetime fishing license years ago. lol

I don't know, but pros have to push their sponsor's merchandise. BASS isn't an individually funded endeavor, there are tons of sponsors and that's not a bad thing. We cannot expect to not see or hear from them.
However, it does go overboard on the brands just a bit. I've never heard Jimmy Johnson say "With my Goodyear tires and my (insert brand) oil, I was able to overcome the competition". Sure they sport the logos but that's about as far as it goes.
Bass fishing isn't that high profile though. If it's not Bill Dance or some other icon, most people would not recognize a Classic winner if they were standing in line with them.
In order for sponsors to get anything for their buck, they have to squeeze every ounce of publicity out of a pro staff member.
It just sucks to pay for the right to be advertised to. I used to be a subscription holder myself, but like others have said, I got tired of having to find the needle that is the article in the haystack that are the advertisements.
I do like "Day on the Lake" however. I don't read it to learn how to fish, I know how to fish. I think if you are reading these printed media to learn tricks, you are way behind the curve. By the time someone divulges a trick to the world, it' been in use for years. You just have to get with the right crowd like fishing a pro-am or something in order to pick up good tips.

I still get it, but I'm excited that ESPN sold it. It was filled with BASScar reports which I have very little interest in. The information is what I liked, and I hope they will bring back more of that.
