Hello All: I'm new to this board and have enjoyed all the discussions on catfish. I'm a bass fisherman (please don't hold that against me) that wants to learn more about catching catfish so my little ones can have the same memories I have of running lines with my grandfather. I have a place on Lake Travis. It doesn't look like a catfish lake but we are up the lake some and visibility is only about 5 feet (compared to 15 feet on the lower end. I put out a trotline last weekend and caught 2 (5# & 6#). I used perch. What type and size hooks do you recommend? Bait? Location? Advice on every aspect of catching cats is appreciated. Thanks!

I was joking as well - trying to sound like Dinero in Taxi Driver. I'm a different bjackson. I've fished Travis all my life but have mostly been a bass fisherman. I recently bought a little weekend place on Travis and want my kids (when they are older) to have as much fun running trotlines as I did with my Grandad. I think it is much more fun for them to catch perch and bait a line than chase bass all day. I'm sure I will ask a lot of questions on this board!

I will definitely take you up on that. Our place is in Flat Creek - down the lake a couple of miles from the Perdenales split.

Catfish Jack, Where on Travis do you drift fish for catfish? I live near the lake and fish it quite a bit. Thanks.

ed,if you look at a lake travis map ,you will find anderson bend across from bee creek.this area was a ranchers pasture before the lake was built.it is an area fairly free of rocks and stumps.i have been drifting this area for years with good sucess.the depth varies from 10 to 80 feet.i carry marker bouys with me and when i hit a hot spot i will mark it,check the depth and continue to drift over that spot and other areas at that same depth.stop and say hello if you see me.good luck

Thanks a lot. I checked my map. It looks like Lakeway Marina is the closest launch ramp. Is this correct?

Try drifting in about 80 feet near the dam with live perch. Sounds too deep I know, but they are there (generally when it gets a little hotter though).

ed,depending on where you live lakeway might be the closest. if i need to launch a boat i use a little marina called siesta shores. it is off bee creek road and siesta shores drive. didnt do much good this weekend due to high wind and boat traffic. good luck jack
