Mylar Braid ...
Barlows for bigger braid or JoAnnes Fabric Store for smaller stuff - fabric store braid very inexpensive.

N.E. Texas 2 acre and 1/4 acre ponds.

Looks like mylar tubing. You can get it at any store that sells fly tying materials e.g. Cabelas, Bass Pro, Backwoods et. al.

By the way, you are correct - the stuff makes great flies. Some real fish catchers. I use it on zonker flies. I have some plans cooking in my head for other uses, I just need to sit down at the vise.

Yes, it just has a tighter braid - I prefer the looser braid for most flies but similar to yours for others.

The material is called a couple of different things. Spirit River sells it as Woven Body Tubing, Wapsi's version is called Flex-Tubing. In my experience, normal Mylar Tubing is made of flat, tinsel-like material. The Flex Tubing is mostly nylon filaments often with some mylar woven in.

Fun material to play with though!

The army uses something similar to that, but in a 2" inside diameter. We use it to cove wiring harnesses in aircraft to prevent chaffing. we call it snake skin. Cound probably get you some if you can tie a fly big enough. Not to mention cast said fly.
