Putting them in the right location is the most important thing.

Guess that would depend on the depth maybe.... I've got one I'm looking to get rid of if you want to sink 2. All you have to do is pick it up in Lewisville.
You guys know everything..... I'm just an idiot....no problem........

I tie a cinder block to the base of the tree on a short rope, the let it down easy.Make sure you let it dry real good, then shake off all the loose stuff 1st
May your wiener schnitzel always stay above your lederhosein.

I'm a crappie newbie. I've been trying to hone my catfishing skills this year. I want to get in on the crappie action. I've already collected 18 trees and I get another truck load of 6 every time I pass the recycling dropoff. So....what do I do with them now? It was mentioned about to put them in a good location. What exactly make a location good for crappie? I know I am asking a lot, but here is a contour map of the little (700 acres) lake I want to put the trees. If someone is really bored, can you look at it and give a few suggestions? As far as making them vertical, is tying a weight onto it with a short rope good enough to keep it vertical? Would cutting the trunk off to the first limbs help with that? Does it help to thin out the branches? There's no way a crappie could swim through some of these trees b/c the branches are way too close. I also noticed above that I need to let it dry out first and let the needles fall off. I guess that will make it a little more roomy, but seems like I should remove half the branches on them. Thanks for helping out an ignorant newbie!

i prefer a thick wire to stand the tree up off the bottom, i just have never done this with christmas trees, so idk about the weight or thinning the tree out.

yeah, I was going to use electric fence wire b/c I have a lot of it and it's cheap. But how do you use the wire to get it to stand up?

I got 6 discarded Christmas trees at a city drop-off location. Do you guys like to just tie a concrete block to one end and toss overboard so it stands up from the bottom, or do you prefer to use two blocks, one on each end, so it lays flat on the lake floor? Someone says they don't work if they're laying down, but I catch a lot from an old brushpile that sticks up only 1-2 feet from the lake bottom. I also heard they work better if you tie a empty milk jug to the base and anchor the pointed end to the bottom, so the tree is floating up-side-down. Sounds like just about anything will work so long as you anchor it in the right area that the fish like.

im in boats stalls, so i tie the wire to a pole, or a board to stand it up. get you some coated wire, or the wire will rust and break leaving the tree laying flat on the bottom. maybe a large float might work with the same concept, but idk.

A guy from Tawakoni told me he cable-ties a long piece of PVC pipe to the main trunk/base of the Christmas tree, shoves it down into the water, small-end first as far as he can, and uses more cable ties to secure the PVC to one of the dock pilings. He swears he rarely gets hung up.
