I'm trying to start a high school fishing team an I was wondering where I would need to start in order to make one. Such as sponsors and tournements and all that good stuff. If y'all have any ideas for me it would be greatly appreciated.:)

Good luck with that! I'd love to start one at my school but I am the ONLY person that bass fishes in the entire school so no hope for me. Plus im a senior so its a little late.

Start off by talking to the principal first. Get a club going. Worry about making a club first and getting members before you start to worry about sponsors. There are also several other high school teams that are getting started with that so a league just for you guys may be imminent in the very near future.

The biggest problem is going to be finding kids that can fish. What I mean is, most of the kids in school do not have a DL or a boat that they can take out. Good luck with it I hope you are able to get it going!!

There are ways around that. When I started the club at Baylor, we had about 12 members but only one or two had boats. We still managed to find people that would either lend us their boats, would let us ride with them or be in the boat with us while we drove it. There was never a tournament we had that someone was not able to fish, even after I graduated.

you can also be creative by going to a place that rents canoes or kayaks

Thank you all for the encouragemant and I definately agree about finding the people that actually can fish. Me, personaly, I have fished my whole life and it's one of my favorite things to do.

G-B Jr you get the club approved by the school admin. and I will be the first to make a donation towards your efforts. Your Dad can get you in touch with me.

Thank you very much. I have talked to the principal and he says that I need to find out what other schools around me have teams. I already have a few student that say they would definately join. I only need 6 to start.
