I actually feel odd not wearing my pfd. I got in the habit when I got my first boat and ask everyone who fishes with me to wear theirs as well.

Sounds like the circling boat is what actually saved him. If it wasnt for the commotion of the boat circling, no one might have been there to help. Life jackets dont solve the hypothermia issue.
Keep your cell phone on your body in a zip lock bag. If its windy you might not be able to get back to your boat.

I'm going to put a ladder on my boat so if I fell out, my fat A could get back in without freezing.

I have had a latter on my last 2 boats, thankfully it was there this past spring when I was fishing alone and took a dive. the pfd auto inflated but there is no way I getting back in that boat without the ladder. I was on Amisted on the mexico side. Bad place to be stranded.
Retirement best job ever.

superstreet and 9094 This is a how you may be able to get back in the boat without a ladder and a MUST read as well However i would not discourage putting a ladder on the boat. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...are#Post5626156

I fell out of my boat in the winter time on Ray Roberts all by myself. My boat's previous owner had the foresight to put an emergency ladder on - I unfortunately would not have. Luckily I did have a ladder and I was completely out of breath when I got back in the boat. You can say that it will not happen to you and that you will be able to do this and that..., but in reality you can fall out of a boat before you know it!
