John Varner...is the choice for me. Straight forward and honest. Hired him one time to show me around the lake and it was a great learning experience.

Not sure what the bite is like out at Hubbard but if you would like to really fish some of the popular spots see if you can wait out till spring.

Best of luck to you

John Varner is tha man for Hubbard!! He will shorten your learning curve big time thumb

Be careful, there's a fake, clone, counterfeit guy who goes by the name of John Vernon. Stay away from that dude grin

If you are going to hire a guide on Lake Ray Hubbard, the only choice would be John Varner. He knows that lake better than anyone and won't BS you about anything. He will teach you about the lake and the patterns of the fish. Good luck to you and let us know how you do!!

i know i havent been on the water in a while but i remember very well a time when me and a buddy were on the fish in a real tight spot. SOMEBODY....not saying who, rode up real close to us and actually bumped my boat tryin to get his customers where we were. we cranked up the big motor and made sure we scared everything off when we left bolt

I can tell you that I've used Johnny Procell as well as some of the others on this forum. I hear John Varner is top notch though I haven't fished with him yet.

Johnny will have you bring your iPhone or GPS so you can mark the spots if you choose to return at your leisure. He will show you techniques, lures, times to fish, etc.

But most importantly.... He gives you his phone number to call. You will see that Johnny is very weathered and tan. I mean.... This guy fishes all of the time. I call him before I head out to see if he has been lately and where they are biting. Twice this past year he went out of his way to call me to tell me that the hybrids were popping the top on a torpedo and to get my butt out there. (in my own boat mind you, so no benefit to him)

I can tell you that Johnny Procell will teach you quite a bit and you'll have a blast. As someone noted..... He will probably advise you to wait another few months.

Hope this helps.

Jackson

I fish with Matt Cartright at Matts Guide Service. I fish with him twice a month he can find fish, and good ones!! His number is 214-415-0166. I highly recommend him for Hubbard or Tawakoni.
Give him a try you won't regret it.

Thanks guys, but I'd be lost on Hubbard right now. I don't fish it near as much as I used to. Just mainly in the Summer. Give JV or Sassyman a call. Both are very good guides. thumb
