I talked to John over at www.johnnysals.com and he gave me such a good deal I thought I would share it with you in case you were looking at new Graphs too! 2 Lowrance HDS-5 with 83/200khz US Basemap 1 LSS-1 Structure Scan 1 15 foot ethernet cable for LSS-1 All shipped to my door for $1794! He said for an additional $350 he would upgrade 1 to a HDS 7 but I only had $1800.

I'll be surprised if you're not looking to upgrade to a larger unit sooner rather than later! IMHO, the HDS-5 screen is a bit small for good Side Scan and Down Scan images.
I started out with an HDS-7 but it wasn't long before I pulled the trigger on a HDS-8 just for the larger screen.

I had to just about make a deal with the devil to get permission to spend $1800 on fish finders! Thank God for Christmas and sympathetic wives!!! Plus I have a friend with the exact setup and he loves it. So maybe in a few years I can upgrade again but for now I am super happy to have 2 HDS units linked and with Structure Scan And Down Scan Front and rear!!! Plus both head unit come with transducers so I will have an extra one if I need it!

Dang that is a good deal! I like my HDS-5, but when I do the LSS, I'm upgrading to an HDS-8.

I am pumped too...I just got an HDS-10 today. Congrats. Now It will take me a month to figure it out.

Awesome, sounds like a sweet setup! I totally understand what you meant about having to make a deal with the devil. I won't go into any details, but I had to do a lot of convincing just to get $400 to buy a clearanced HB 597. So, don't feel too bad about not having the extra $350 to spend. You've got the important stuff now. Bigger screens can wait for upgrades later.

No doubt that bigger is better, but we are not having a problem finding structures or seeing things we need to see. Would a 7", 8", or 10" be better, I don't think that is even a question. BUT, driving a Lexus is better than driving a VW, but when the day is over, they both will get you to where you need to go. You'll love it. keith

Congratulations. I wanted the larger screen myself, but the wife killed the extra expense. I have been running the 798 bird and even though it has the smaller screen I've learned to live with it. It certainly is better than no SI at all.

I had to make a deal with the devil myself(She is cute though). Got on of the refurbished HDS-7 bases for 699. from cabelas. I need to get a nav card now... shhhh dont tell her.

I have noticed in some pics and videos I have watched that the HDS has a tach and other gauges does anyone know how to set that up?
