So I've heard of the basic ballon rig where it's used instead of a bobber but this guy pulled up next to me today and did something I've never seen before. Of course he wouldn't tell me how he was doing it(which is fine) but anyways he tied the ballon on with a string and put his line in the water and it drifted with the wind out to where he wanted it and then he gave his line a tug and the ballon went lose dropping the line to the bottom pretty damn smart if you ask me. The only way I can figure it out is to send it out then shoot the ballon with a beebee gun, does anybody know what kind of knot he tied or whatever he did would be helpful???

I have balloon fished a little the times we did it was at the Texoma dam and we would drift baits up into the no boat zone. Just use some thread and tie the balloon to the swivel whn it gets where you want it give it a jerk. Down goes the bait.
Other people use lifesavers candy but that seems a little silly to me
The bigger the balloon the faster it floats out

A guy at lake ray hubbard showed me how they do it, they used a bobby pin to hold the ballon in place, you have to spread it apart alittle so when tugged on, the ballon will slide out.

Ive used the large punch ballons before with a lifesaver. I have a spinning reel setup to retrieve the ballon. Takes a few minutes to setup but easy to use.

Do you do a balloon rig on a light wind day? Because you would need the wind to your back and dont want it pushing the shad away right?
