rednecksooner Shad is 98% of a blue cats diet and live perch on a line placed in the right area will more than likely get you old flat head for dinner. Redneck's soap works too but when I can catch shad I give em what they are looking for

Shad. The bigger the better. If to big give it to them cut. I also have heard shrimp soaked in vanilla extract works good. Another coice is blood bait.
Drop it in front of them and they will eat it!!!

beef heart, shad and soap. The beef heart is good for both channels and blues. You will be suprised when you catch several from the same piece of beef heart.

do you cut up the dead perch or do you just worm them on from the tail up?

Shad in the summer, cut bait in the winter [when shad is hard to find] I save & freeze some of the "junk fish" I catch & use them later...believe it or not,GAR is one of best cut baits there is!

The best bait for juglines, with out a doubt is CARP. Catch a carp, castnet, club, bow, whatever. Scale it and cut into 1"x 1 1/4" chunks. The skin is VERY tough. You will have to wiggle the hook point to get it thru. Kinda like a pork rind on a bass bait. The blues will chew on it till they get hooked. They cannot steal the bait. When you check them the next morning they will either have a fish or still be baited. Got tired of baiting with shad and checking them a few hours later and most of the bait cleaned off with very few hookups. Something to think about. If you bait a hook with shad late in the evening and check your lines early the next morning and have a bare hook, it was probably cleaned off before you got home the night before.
