I am realtively new to slabbing but have had success. I made the decision that that is going to be my area of focus the next few months so I just ordered 70 180 slabs from TNT in just about every color. I ordered the 1oz because that seems to be the most popular from what I have read. Do I need to go order some of the bigger ones and some of the smaller ones or will this get me started in the right direction?

Good choice on going with TNT slabs. Slabs 1.0oz and larger are great for fishing deep water. I like to keep an assortment of sizes in my boat. That way I can match the hatch in other words I can use the closest size to the bait fish they are feeding on for the time of year. In the summer Ill tie on a 3/8oz TNT 180 and throw into schools of white bass that are surfacing, using a fast retrieve to burn it back on a light spinning reel setup. I also keep a second rod rigged with a 3/4oz TNT 180 that I cast beyond the school and let it sink under them. Sometimes the bigger fish will be underneath the school waiting on the injured shad to fall down to them. If you really want to go big Ive got the 2.5oz TNTs available on my site. HERE Im sure others will chime in with more techniques and advice. Good luck.

I figured the 1oz would cover a wide range to start with. Probaby go and get 10-15 of the 1.5 oz and maybe 15 of the 3/4oz. that should get me started with a good variety.

I don't want to start a slab war here because I have used TNT and they are a good product. But.... if you are new to slabbing and wanting to try different things, I would try a flutter style jig also like Moe's #41 just for a different action. I have gone to that lure almost exclusively for slabbing due to the success that I have had. http://www.moestackleshop.com/estore/details/4024

Variety is the spice of life. Fish are finiky so it is wise to have a good assortment of baits with you at all times. Besides, shopping around for all the different baits is all part of the fun of fishing.

BrandonA thanks for your order. 1oz is probably my top seller and is good for most conditions. The larger baits such as 1.5oz and 2oz are great for fishing in windier conditions, it helps keep the bait down on the drift and like sbt4u mentioned earlier match the hatch. The smaller baits are great for after the hatch and on schoolies throwing small baits into schooling fish is an automatic hookup. Getting thru those fishing with big baits is the true reward though. The bigger baits like 1.5oz and 2oz are scary to many anglers, anytime I visit with folks on trying to decide what to get I always tell them get some large baits even if only a couple....and generally they come back for more. If your fishing for Hybrid and Stripers think about it those guys like the larger meal, kinda like me when I choose how big my steak is when I pick them out...I guess it is true you gotta think like a fish. There are many great baits out there, nothing wrong with having some of all of them, just makes you prepared for different conditions that bring on different patterns.
