Jugline fishing is sucessful, and used at anytime of the year. Bigger fish are normally caught in the winter.

If you need freezer fish, you can fish a jug successfully anytime of the year. It is a fun way to fish and very easy process. However it never takes the place of having the patience to go out and catch your limit of eating size cats or to sit and wait on the trophy. The thrill catching fish on the Rod n Reel will never be repaced by the jug, but for beginners and people with less patience jugging is fun.
Like Jackie said, you can find bigger fish in the winter on jugs. My suggestion, even if it is your first big fish, measure it, photgraph it, weigh it, and release it...If you want to eat some good tasting fish, keep them smaller ones and release them bigger ones.
Whichever kind of fishing you do, jugging, or other, enjoy yourself and share the joy with others.
