Ive seen some talk on here about snelling your hooks and that it is important. my question is what are the advantages of snelling your hook as opposed to using a clinch knot or palomar knot?

Circle hooks do not work properly without being snelled

If you snell a circle hook the correct way and no matter which way it is turned you can run the line along your finger and as the hook gets to your finger the snell knot causes it to turn to where it would hook therefore increasing your hook-ups.

I see. thanks. I shall begin snelling all my circle hooks now. are the advantages only to be seen with circle hooks or does snelling have advantages with regular hooks.

It can work with regular hooks too.

Also the snell know is almost 100% line strength

Snelling a hook is a lot easier than what the video shows.
Use a Uni-knot with your line, no leader is necessary unless you want to use a leader heavier or lighter than you main line. You can still use the Uni-knot for the leader/hook connection and use it on both ends of the leader (Uni-Uni-Knot for leader to main line connection).

hard to imagine a knot that is easier than the video & if you use a uni-knot then your hook ain't snelled ... just sayin'

personal opinion.... a properly tied snell knot "looks" pretty cool when done right.
