My wife, youngest daughter, and her boy friend wanted to go crappie fishin today, but not too early of course. We put in and was up the creek at 11:00, fished till 2:30. Had 22 keepers and 10-12 shorts, along with a 15 1/2" LMB my daughter caught and wanted to keep, the bass isn't in the picture though.
Crappie were on brush, the shallow fish were in 3-6' of water about 2' off the bottom holding tight to laydowns, but most were caught on deeper brush piles, 16-20' of water and holding right over the top or slightly inside the piles at 10-15' deep. All but one keeper and two shorts were caught on jigs.
I was kept busy getting jigs loose and re-tying, but still managed to catch a few in between as well. Had a really good day with them in the boat, kinda crowded with four in my 19' Tracker, but it was fun having my wife and daughter catchin crappie!

Nice mess of fish. Nothing like being a deck hand.

If work was as much fun as fishing, I'd LOVE my job!

I tried not too lol! I had them using #4 hooks most of the time to help minimize the hang-ups, and I can tie a palomar pretty quick too lol!

The funny thing that day was that my daughter noticed that I wasn't hanging up very often and she wanted to know why. I told her because when I moved the jig I did it very slow, paid close attention and could "feel" the jig when it was in the brush, and that I didn't pull it up very hard when I felt it on brush and could wiggle it around to free it a lot of times before it got hung up. I told her it didn't always work but it seemed to help. It surprised me that she was actually paying attention in the first place, but it really surprised me when she said "I want you to teach me how to fish a jig so I don't get hung up so much". She's never really cared before, fishin was fishin, and catchin was always fun.....but I think she may be starting to get serious about her crappie fishin and now it puts a whole new light on it....I can't wait to take her out again!

LOL! By the "parking lot" I will assume you're talkin about Kickapoo.....Nope, I don't have the patience to set on a stick-up waiting for someone in the boat show to give up a better looking stick-up before I can move. Just not my kind of crappie fishin.
