Went drifting on grapevine saturday. Ended the day with 31 fish and a new lake grapevine record blue. 31.9lbs. This one beat my previous grapevine record by .6lbs.

I can only imagine the hit on that pole drift fishing!! When we used to drift on cross lake even the 4-5 pounders would double the pole over!! Very nice fish and congrats man!!

it doubled over pretty hard. I grabbed it and set the hook, and when i set the hook drag started being pulled smile drag being pulled is the 2nd best sound there is behind a screaming clicker...IMHO smile

DID YOU KILL A PERCH TO USE JUST THE HEAD? SEEMS LIKE THE WHOLE LIVE PERCH WOULD BE BETTER. BUT YOU HAVE THE FISH SO I WILL BELIEVE WHATEVER SAY.

if i'm fishing for flatheads i'll use live perch. But cut perch and perch heads make great blue bait. I just filet the meat off the side of the perch and use those as filets...and then i cut the head off and use it. I mostly use shad but occasionally i'll use perch

I know the cut perch heads work great for the blue cats and live perch work good for the flatties. I catch alot of cats on shad (dead or alive).
What side of Grapevine lake did you catch the blue on ?

AL I - I caught the fish drifting in 40ft of water by the dam.

relaxin - i would recommend getting the video by Jerry Hancock of North Texas Guide service. He talks about drifting, equipemtn setup, etc. Very informative video.

How deep were you drift fishing it ? On the bottom or 10 to 15 ft of the bottom.
