My best topwater bait this year was a spook. I forgot how productive this bait could be. For most of the year, I used a LC Sammy, but i lost that $15 bait and went to a couple of original zara spooks that I had. To my surprise, the spooks caught just as many fish as the the lucky crafts.

One thing I definitely noticed is that the hooks on the lc's are alot better. So, I'm going to upgrade my hooks on the spooks.

So here's my question(s):
Do you guys still use the old school spooks? If so, do you use the original size or the spook jr?

And, what size hooks would you use? I'm thinking about using the KVD Elite hooks, size #2. But I'd really like to hear what others use.

BTW, I use a feather treble on the back.

As always, appreciate all teh info.

+2 on the spooks, I have caught more fish on the black shiner spook jr. than any sammy or other LC topwater. I always use a feathered hook also. I prefer the spook jr. but depending on where Im at and how aggressive the fish are I will throw the original. I usually Put a Gamakatsu feathered size 2.

The spook jr, original spook, the one knocker spook and the super spook take up most of my topwater boxes thumb

I use Gamakatsu roundbends to get a better hook up if they're slapping at it and not committing and Gamakatsu EWGs the rest of the time. Size 4s and size 2s

I love the Zara Spook but my favorite is the old Wood Walker in Tennessee Shad.

I have caught more big fish on a spook than any other topwaters. Put Gama hooks on them and get after it.

High price does not necessarily mean high production.

I usually use Super spooks and spooks. I also use asize 2 owner feathered treble on the back and a red size 2 eagle claw in the front. I usually like to omit the middle hook on the superspook and rarely miss fish.
