I am on vacation today and I was thinking about going fishing on Fork today. Normally, I would be hunting this time of year but I tagged out during bow season. I know the lake fairly well but winter bass fishing is not something that I am very familiar with. Any suggestions on where to start on a day like today (cold and cloudy)?

Forget Monticello! Squaw Creek is the new rage of Texas.

Going to Fork This afternoon myself. Try some jiggin spoons out deep, red rattle traps over shallow grass. I might try to swim something through some suspended fish if thats what they're doing. Might look around some of the creeks like Dale Creek to see if they are chasing any of the big gizzard shad.

I have'nt been on the water for about 8 years due to work and other commitments but used to spend a lot of time on Fork. The best day on Fork I ever had was about 8 or 10 years ago when we got into a buch of big bass chasing some big shad during January. In about an hour and a half my partner and I caught at least 20 from 4-9 lbs. We were casting big A/C plugs at them while they were blowing up at the surface. It was one of those timing deals.

b south, i remember that, but it was probably more like 12 or 13 years ago. Just past the bridge under big Mustang. For about 2 yrs some real giants schooled in there starting around December to mid Jan. It was unbelieveable. i was about 40 yards from Brian Duplechain when he caught his 14 pounder! We caught lots of 4 - 9 lb fish on giant plugs...a/c, castaic...what a blast! Jay, check out Honey Hole on Fork a couple of weeks ago. Mark Pack showed a couple of good deep spots. By the way, why the heck are you still home at 10am if you're going to Fork today????

I only live a few minutes from the lake, I got on the water around 11:30 and fished until 4:30. I did catch three decent fish on a jig. The wind was sort of a pain today but all in all it was an enjoyable day.
