I honsetly have never fished the red. But rivers are rivers and a good 4 to 6 inch perch will get you a yella. Smaller is OK too, I've caughta 28pder on threaded on buffalo about finger's length. Jsut like your buddy said find that deep hole with some adjacent shallow water at night and hold on. Try investing in a r/r with a clicker. Yella's like to mouth the bait a few times before they go on wiht it. That clicker will alert you to his presence , let him take it 2 or 3 pulls and then when you think he's got it good, give it to him. Takes some hard learned patience but the pay off is weel worth it. Good Luck

Going to take your word on the location. Without any landmarks or roads I am toast.. I am going to stick to the Oklahoma side.

Catfish_Hunter, any place up along that bend has always been excellent kitty fishing. That first cove coming east around that bend from your red circle is Sliccum Slough and I have loaded the boat right there, and on up north along that bend. That is typically about as far as I care to try going in my boat.
The only thing I've ever done around on the side of the bend you circle is hunt. Never thought about fishing it?? It gets mighty remote back in there.

We typically just flung shrimp, shad gizzards, and nightcrawlers at 'em. Always took my uncles blazer and it was hard to bring live bait down there. One day we were sorry we didn't have a thrownet with us b/c there was some sort of shad run or somethin' and the fish were goin' nuts...no shad...no hits.
No fish is too good for the grease.

Now we are talking. I have heard people on the OK side talk about Sliccum Slough. Do you know if there is access from the road or boat only.

I think Slickum Slough is locked up where the only way to get in and fish is either to walk or to get there by boat.

I fish below the damn on the Red around the hwy 78 bridge area. Have great luck with shad and dug worms balled up on the hook. If you can get perch, hang on for the big uns. Really never know what I'll catch even though I try for cats. Have taken my share of bass, crappie, sandies, hybrids, huge stripers, eel, and of course...cats with the bait mentioned above.

Are you balling them up on a shank hook or a treble. Definitely going to try the perch alive and cut. Thanks for the information

Perch Jerker, I haven't been around there by vehicle for years now. I know my cousins used to have a family gathering over there ever year in a primitive camp. But, last I talked to him they had quit doing that. Too rough to pull a camper in on some of those old dirt top roads. The Corps manager for Lake Texoma is sometimes on this board, and often on the www.whiskerkitty.com board....He goes by 5511. He could tell you if you can still get access via vehicle.....Ron you reading this thread??
