Can be. I had to replace one before for giving faulty reading. It wasn't in a Skeeter, but was in a Bullet. What brand is it?

It is a possibility that the tach is off. You could check it against an inductive timing light that has the tach built in. Or have one of the automotive guru's put it on their diagonistic machine that has a tach.

never trust a analog tach. digital tach is way more trustworthy.

Where can you get a digital tach for Mercs? I had one for my old Rude I loved it but I cannot find one for my Merc...
