I need to build some sort of Dog run for the pups, or at least be able to fix the half arsed fence around our back pasture to keep the pups in. Its currently constructed with chicken wire type stuff, although heavier than plain ole chicken wire.. just not sturdy enough.. and lots of falling down half arsed posts etc.. any idea the costs involved for materials? What sort of materials should I look into? Cattle panels? Chain link? Any place to look, or stay away from to keep my cost to a minimum? Just need suggestions, as I dont want my dogs to keep being able to escape from their huge back yard... thanks folks.

The cheapest way would be to get on craigslist or freecycle and find some chain link. The chain link can usually be found cheap or free. You'd need to put the poles a bit closer together to make it more sturdy. Plus you need to have railing along the top.

I used to see adds for free chain link fencing all the time on craigslist, but this was the best deal I found on the Dallas site...

Mrs. RoF emailed that link to me earlier, and Ive since emailed the poster.. trying to snag that up. SEemed like a decent deal, although Ive not ever priced the stuff.

We have chain link right now at the lake house for our dogs. I will be replacing it in a couple of years with a cattle panel/cedar wood fence. I just don't want to start that project until I'm finished with the others. We haven't had any problems with the deer or the big dogs getting into the fence, but we have had one dog that dug under the fence when my 2 female dogs were in heat at the same time...

This is a better deal...Maybe you can recycle all of bankbeater's beer cans...You'd probably be able to pay for the fence and retire...

You may want to look into an invisible fence. They start out around $100, and may very well end up a cheaper option if you have a big yard.

Yup they work really good just make sure if you have moles or gophers that you look into burying the wire in some type of small (1/2") pvc pipe and glue all the joints together. Probably your most inexpensive route and can still use them if you fence later on.

My father-in-law had his covering almost an acre and a half and it has different settings for more shock. His was set on the lowest level. The key like any other hotwire is to have a good GROUND. If you live where it is dry. A good place to put the ground is near a water faucet and keep the ground moist. IF you decide to go with one of these a word of advice....... Put your dogs on a leash, install the little flags in the ground around the perimeter and walk them around the perimeter ON THE LEASH after you turn the fence on. And if for some God forsaken reason they bust out of the perimeter DONT pick them up and carry them back across........... Don't ask how I know this lol.

No idea if these are any good or not, but they're definately not $900.
