This is not a ban for the lake part of LOP...just from downstream of the spillway to Caddo Lake. All of the Texas side of Caddo is in this ban.

http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/seafood/MapsPDF/AdvisoryMaps/BigCypressCaddoLK.pdf

I went to the dam at LOP yesterday. The fishing has stunk there since mid June or so. (not enough rain to bring the fresh fish into the area. Anyway I contacted TPWD because I saw a fish consumption ban sign there at LOP dam. There is high levels of mercury. It was found in LMB, and freshwater drum. According to the map, mercury would be in all of the Texas side of Caddo Lake, hmmm. I do not know what caused the high mercury. Just giving people a heads up on this.

Transported around the globe from international sources, a lot from China, a lot from here locally too. If Texas adopts EPA standards you'll see many many advisories on the rest of Texas lakes. Texas standards are much more liberal than EPAs, they're fighting to not have to use them.

What about the fish that swim from the Texas side of Caddo into the Louisana side? Thanks for the post.

Well I wouldn't trust fish from either side of Caddo now. I am just reporting what I found out. If I hadn't of seen that sign, I would not have known anything. I could not find anything by looking up LOP ban. That is why I contacted the TPWD.

Longhorn Ammunition Plant was a Federal "Super Fund" site for many years. You might try "Caddo consumption ban" of "Big Cypress consumption ban"

I was there and saw the sign, which had not been there before. Then I contacted TPWD, and they told me it was from the downstream side of the spillway all the way to Caddo Lake. This was from a few days ago, not a few years ago.

It isn't a ban at all. It's an advisory. It says you should limit consumption, not that you can't keep and eat fish.

No, it is not a total ban. But it is very limited consumption. Maybe I didn't word it right, but considering it all, I would not eat any of that fish. If you chose to, that is your choice.
