Looking at a new house. Dryer vents directly into the attic. There is dryer lint all over the insulation. I dont think it would be a hazard and would actually make the attic smell nice. Just wondering if it ok to do?

I've seen it done. But I prefer to vent it into the garage, myself....and not waste the heat during the winter months. If you arent comfortable with it, it's an easy fix. If that's all you dont like about the place, dont let that stop you from buying it. I would check out everything else, though.

I would think it would be a fire hazard! Why don't you just run some 4" pipe through the roof?

it needs to be vented to the outside, fire hazard would only take one little spark to set off the lint. make the seller pay to have the vent done if you buy it.

Besides a fire hazard, it puts moisture in the attic. Attic vents are there to remove moisture.

For sure....that is a half-a#@ job. you will need a 41/2" roof jack with cover to match the pitch of the roof. Any sheetmetal place can make you one under 20$. Slide to 4" cond. pipe into the flashing and secure.

it's against code. Fire hazard, heats the attic in summer, added moisture and promotes mold. Also a vertical dryer vent needs a clean out at the lowest point or you will have a build up at the 90. You'll be fine aslong as you only dry damp clothes to keep the lint from going up in flames.

A decent home inspector will catch that and it will have to be vented to the exterior of the home. That is against code, as said before.

As said before it needs to go outside. Some times when the vent turns and goes up they also have a fan to help boost the exhaust out thru the roof.
