Fished Falcon Lake week before last and here is a quick summary of trip and some new software from GPS Lake Maps that we used.

The afternoon we got there we had about 3 hours to fish and caught 14 .. no big ones but most keepers and up to about 3 pounds so we were "pumped". Stanley spinnerbaits (white) were the bait that afternoon. The next day I felt the cold walls of the motel that were shaking with the 30mph+ COLD north winds and knew that we were in trouble. We just tried to survive that day and fished way back up in Veleno. Caught about 10 bass and I think big bass was about 4 1/2-pounds. Very Tough Windy Conditions.

We didnt feel comfortable fishing Mexico (where most of the shallow water fishing is located) and the lake is about 2-feet above flood stage. The bass in many areas are about a block or more inside the brush and you just can't get to them. We were testing some new software from GPS Lake Maps (www.shockwaverods.com) that overlays the Navionics and Lowrance data and it worked out absolutely great. Navionics has quite a few poblems with their data on that lake. The new software is a series of trails that show you the river channel, creek channels and cuts, bridges and tank dams if any. I converted the trails to a red color so it would be easy to follow and it was instrumental in helping us catch bass. Having the red line as a guide for following the creek channels and gullies was outstanding. This software is also made for about 24 other Texas lakes and I cant wait to try it out for my home lakes of Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn.

The following day I absolutely smoked them. I had 10 bass with the five biggest weighing 8-2, 6-8, 5-14, 5-13 and 5-7. almost 32 pounds. Early bass came on spinnerbaits but most all of my bigger fish came on a DD22 (suspending model) that I was working with a very erratic and slow action near and around the trees that were on the edge of channels or cuts (shown by our new software red line). I lost two more really big bass on the bait. Most came from the back of Little Tiger and I was picking up bass that had already seen plastics, jigs and spinnerbaits. It was crazy My biggest bass came from about 5 feet of water and a spinnerbait had been thrown in the spot about four times.

We ended the trip fishing Big Tiger (just to see it) and had about 5 spinnerbait fish in the 3 and 4 1/2 pound range. Finally went out and fished one hump and I had six 4+-pounders that looked liked they all came out of the same cookie cutter. These were taken on plastics and all came from below 24-feet down to 31 feet. Wished we could have had another day .. but it would have really been cold and windy on the main-lake so I guess the good Lord was saying that I should be thankful for the good weather he gave us ,,, especially with what is happening in Minn and upper USA.
