I haven't read how Mike makes his jugs, but if you're interested in making some using 2-liter jugs, let me know. If I can ever get my motor hooked up, I'll even demonstrate them on the Arkansas River.

jtrew I alredy have some made out of two liter bottles I just wanted to try and make some not so bulky. We are going down to Georgetown Lake this weekend and was wanting to try some.We ran yo-yos last weekend and done pretty good.Alot more crappie than catfish so I was going to try to get more cats this time.I have never put any juglines on the river but that sounds like a good idea. What do you do about the current? Thanks Arkansasrob

Juggin' for crappie is a whole 'nuther world. When I can get my hands on some, I like using empty Pennzoil jugs because they're yellow. It's been my experience that crappie usually don't hit hard enough to make a jug tip up on end; you mostly watch for it to start moving around, then go chase it. I generally use 10# mono with a gold crappie hook and a small splitshot. Oddly enough, I seem to catch more crappie on large minnows than small minnows. I use the 10# line because I generally catch some cats and bass along with the crappie. If you plan to do much of this type jugging, jugs made from swimming pool noodles would probably be perfect. When you're jugging the current, you've got to be prepared to have your jugs scattered all over the place. I try to keep mine within a half mile stretch of river, which means I'm continually watching the distant ones with binoculars, and looking for jugs that have gotten into slack water or gotten hung up. I pick them up, rebait, and drop them at the head of the pack. If you're jugging in a calm lake cove or backwater, you can basically set out your jugs and set back and relax till you get a hit. Jugging in a current is constant work, but can be very productive for blues.

Arkansasrob, I've driven through that area several times, but I've never fished it. Most of those old oxbow lakes look like they're private property, and I don't want to be picking birdshot out of my....self. Probably 75% of my catfishing has been done in the Arkansas River between Dardanelle and Morrilton, or at the nuclear power plant outlet, since I used to live in Atkins.
