I am going out to La Mancha Park friday after work to try for some crappie. My buddy and I are going to fish the docks. Any suggestions or tips for this lake?

Don't move the jig at all, they are biting, but you had to hold it dead still and minnows are catching them too. I'll be down sat morning good luck

The bite is picking up, and keeper ratio is great. Most good fish are caught from first 3 pairs of slips. Usually, get as close to bottom and/or brush as you can. Exception is deeper slips, they may suspend at mid ranges or go deep. Bite usually come in waves, may be dead for an hour, then crank up. Fun when it turns on! The big fish are starting to make their winter season appearances.

Since you are fishing overnight you Might want to fish the end of the slips where the lights are because Sunday morning when I was down there , two guys spent the night and fished that end with minnows and jigs and caught sandbass and crappie. Left with a big basket full and they didn't even stay for the morning bite.

tie your line directly to your crappie hook, be that gold aberdeen or sickle or kayle, something with a decent gap from point to shank, then maybe 7-8" up the line tie on a 3/8 or 1/4 oz bass sinker (with the metal eyelet). Fished straightlined down, the minnow has a little room to swim but when a fish takes it, it'll either pull your rod tip down, line will move sideways, or slack will rise up in your line. Very little movement from the rod tip otherwise unless you're using too heavy a weight for that rod or the boat's really rocking from wind or waves, so it's easier to tell if a fish is on. How I do it.

Yes, Brazos is my real name.

Forget the crappie rigs at the house. put a #2 aberdeen on a dropper loop (google is your friend). Give the loop about 3" of slack. Then tie a 3/8 or 1/2 oz drop sinker 6"-8" below that. After fishing this rig at Mancha you will see the advantages.

Yeah we did but just getting back in the groove, we have been chasing bass all year but that lake is our favorite for crappie.
