Why does the Lowr-structureScan Installation say to put the inline switch on the YELLOW wire:: Has fuse on red wire.. If you have the switch [on yellow wire] in the OFF position does it turn off ALL the power to the LSS-1 unit???

The yellow wire is a remote turn on wire. The LSS-1 will not power on unless there is current going through the yellow wire and red wire.

Thanks BASSFISHER1 ::I was thinking I wanted to put a switch in the RED wire ,,then the fuse--then to unit::So I could turn ALL the power off to the unit.Looks like that would mean two switches. What do you think about that..
That is the way I wired up the HDS~~~ But did not have the yellow wire to mess with..ha!

If you want to do it that way by all means go for it, however, it is a bit redundant. If the yellow wire has no voltage to it, the LSS-1 will not power on. Its as simple as that.

I had an auxilary switch on the boat that didn't have anything on it. I put the yellow wire on it. It was fused from the factory.

Thanks Allen:: That is the way I wired the HDS-- I turn off the switch and take the HDS out of boat most of time when not fishing so it does not run down the battery..But will not be taking the LSS out ..I know yellow switch has to be on to run the LSS ..The reason I was asking about the RED wire ,,wanted to know if it was drawing power and run down the battery..GUESS NOT ,with the yellow wire switch OFF. Hope I'm saying this corectly and folk can understand what I'm trying to ask. Not to good at posting or asking the right questions. Think they said the reason you need a switch on the HDS is the internal antenna is powered up all of the time. I thought the red wire might do the LSS the same way. Hope you all can understand what I am trying to say this time. If any of this is not correct, please try in a simple way to tell me. Thanks for your patience and putting up with me.

You shouldn't require a switch on your HDS either. When it is powered off it is powered off. The switch you are probably referring to is for the NMEA 2000 power(network). You would need to switch the network power cable because if it wasn't done the external gps antenna's would constantly draw power.

TexasC1 I think a switch on either wire would work. I personally wired the yellow wires from the HDS and the LSS together and then ran the LSS red power wire through an aux. switch. There are times when I want the HDS on but not the LSS, so I can just turn off the aux. switch. Putting the switch on the yellow wire would accomplish the same thing, but I just like knowing that with the HDS off, and the aux. switch off, that there is absolutely no power connection to the LSS unit.

Red needs to be direct wired to your battery. Yellow can have a switch or just run it to your auxiliary power so when you turn your key on the unit turns on, when you turn your key off then the unit turns off.
