 250 pro xs cuts out

I have a 2008 250 pro xs, it idles smooth, but just as I give it a little throttle it starts missing or cutting out, give it more throttle and it smooth out and goes. What could be causing this.

So when it goes out am I stranded on the lake? It's still in warranty, will hooking it up on computer show its going out?

don't think it will strand you, but a miss firing cylinder is not a good thing.
a computer should show the coil problem.

If it is coils Mercury has a service bulletin out on coils for the 250 Opti Max. If one goes out they are to replace them all at no charge.

an 08 250 merc? I knew right away that I bet this is coils. Been there done that with the same motor twice. I'll never own a merc again. Merc seems to finally have the problem fixed with a new vendor for th coils but I have no faith in gettng back to the ramp with a fairly new motor. For me first time was 10 hours and then 40 hours

This is my first merc and I love it, have it on a Tr21x HP and the boat flies. I've owned yamaha and Johnson, no comparison

Some of these engines had a off idle miss,had to do with the ECM,might need to have the ECM reflashed or up dated,just a thought,is the miss around 1200 to 1500 rpms.

That's exactly the rpm where it does it. I have it at Two Guys at Amstrad now, I bet Binky can figure it out
