A small car battery will have a typical rating of 200+Ah. An Eagle Cuda 242 uses .240 Amps with the backlight on. .170A with the light off.
So.. 800+ hours with the light on. 1000+ hours with the light off.
A typical deer feeder battery is rated at 7Ah so about 28+ hrs with the light on, 40+ hrs with the light off.

hmmm, but just imagine not having to take it out all season to charge it lol. oh well its a dumb idea either way due to the extreme weight.
BUT, what about hooking up some sort or alternator to your pedal mechanism in a hobie pedal drive and charge the battery the whole time your moving?
Or, set up some sort of waterwheel style devise that they used to use back in the day in rivers to generate power?

1. water wheel 2. alternator 3. solar panel +1 don't know where id mount it though. any ideas? this one is probably too big. solar technology is getting better & more affordable now. IMO theyll be everywhere.

At Batteries Plus they have a huge selection and you can find exactly what you want. The price will be a little higher than other places, but selection is ideal. They also have good chargers. The brand is Werker.
I run a depthfinder with one battery, and it has lasted 2+ years which was about 50 days on the water for me. I also run a few submersible green lights off a floating bouy, and I have 2 more batteries for that and they have lasted for a few years also.
I have an xwing on an xfactor and my depth finder is mounted to that. I liked the idea at first, but I don't like it in practice. I will be mounting directly to my kayak next time. The only thing I like about the xwing is that it gives me a great dry storage.

FZ, since I had to replace my tolen fishing gear.... I got that same Werker battery in your picture. Way smaller and lighter than the "full size" deer feeder. Also got the Battery Tender Junior Automatic, both from Batteries Plus (+). Both cheap. the battery goes in a perfectly sized dry bag which goes below deck (and in my Trident in the bow battery storage bag). Since you are working on your transducer mounting and as well I would really consider if you intend to have a 12v (or 6v) bait aeration system (summer shad and salt water baits) and design both systems to run off the same battery, concurrently. If that is an option it will totally change your setup. It is an easy wiring project, but the positioning may become important. Make sure to hit up TKF Rigging section. Salsa PS anybody scoffing at a dry bag vs. a sealed, bulky, modified dry box should consider that if your below deck drybag is submerged long enough to get water inside of it, then you probably have bigger problems to be concerned with than your $15 battery getting wet.

I agree, the only reason I did the box is my main yak is an ultimate and it gets water in it regardless. I was concerned that a poorly sealed battery bag would eventually get water in it over the dry box and the bags are less expensive.

Anyone have a local DFW source for the Werker battery mentioned?

Plano, Batteries plus just north of 15th on the south bound access road for 75. Just go to the batteries plus web site and type in your zip for the closest location to you.

Also "EVS" on James street ( just west of 75 north of spring valley) in Richardson has a great selection. Very much like batteries plus. Great techs there will build for a custom application if needed.
