When will the cats begin to spawn at Lewisville? I was chunking my thrownet at the Trinity, and caught a bunch of lil channel cats about 4 inches long. Threw them back! and keeped the shad. Have they already spawned out in some places?

No fun catching little catfish in the castnet.

I looked it up, 75-85 degrees. Lewisville is not really above 70 in most places now. Heard that April was the warmest month on record though.

Over here in west Texas they are on a tear.Since the 17 th of April I have caught 16# 32# 37# 26# and two 12# yellows and a whole truck load of blues ranging from 1.5# to 12# and one 6# channel cat. Out of this time I have baited my line a total of 6 times. The blues look like they are about finished spawning and the flats and one channel are thinking about it,although still a ways away. The flats that have had eggs are still not developed fully. My line is in 8' of water near a creek channel and my best catches have been at night. It is only going to get better over the next six to eight weeks I think.

I fished Lake Fairfield(hot water lake/power plant) and caught a channel cat that was spitting out eggs when I jerked it in the boat so I would assume that water temps in the high 70's can kick the spawn off. I've always heard that yella's spawn later.

The shad are spawing on LL right now. The cats are feeding on the eggs and the shad. If you find the shad you will find the cats. I'm guessing you just happened to find the shad eggs. But really which came first? The shad, the eggs or the catfish?

on cedar creek i just cleaned about 20 blues and only one was full of eggs. as i caught them i thought they were all bursting with eggs cause they were so fat, but turns out they were just super gorged with shad. water temp at top is 71, and 70 at bottom, according to athens daily review (newspaper).

little cats in the net ugggggg lol.
