I'm looking to get a Navionics chip. Can someone tell me if the Falcon lake map on the chip is very detailed. ie road beds, underwater bridges, etc. I know it is the U.S. side only.
Thanks
AJ

I wouldn't rely too much on it. I've found a lot of stuff that's not on the map. Even some of the stuff it shows is off. Best thing about the chip is it keeps you on track running the lake.Hire one of the local guides. He will put you on some fish. I fished with Jim Edwards earlier this year. He really knows the lake and can show you all around. Glad I marked some stuff while the lake was down. We have Charlie on the 20th. He knows the lake like the back of his hand. I think hiring these guys is money well spent. There are many other quality guides down there. These are just two I have used.

Apparently mine was made when the lake was low because the water level is way off. It was somewhat helpful but I agree with above hire a guide for the first time out he will atleast get you going in the right direction and then you can duplicate fairly easy down there. Good luck.

Mine was off too. We were fishing in 15-20 ft. of water and it showed us to be on dry land by a good ways. Thought my GPS was off. But went back to Amistad a few days later and it was right on.

Guides told me chip was made when the lake was way down. When you go on the mexican side you can be fishing in 15 feet of water and it will show you way up on the bank. We had same thing happen on the American side just not as often. I've often wondered why graph manufactures don't allow us to update the current water level to compensate for this. I go ahead and mark good structure and make a notation on the graph.

When Navionics charted the lake it was about 12-14 feet low.. And that is about what the contour lines are off.. Falcon is so up and down that there was no telling when the lake would fill. So I guess they did the best they could.. But it would be nice if they came back and re-charted it while it is full. And then they would have another chip to sell..
Many of the old houses and rockpiles are on the base map on a modern machine.. And it shows a lot of the roads and bridges better than the chip.. The contours are good on the chip, just not depth accurate at current levels..

Its better than not having it.
Jim Edwards is a great guide and put us on a bunch of fish.

Its better than not having it. Very true Pool elevation was 276.57 feet when it was mapped and with the water fluctuation not sure when or if a new one will be done. Debra

Wow! That means the depth is off over 26 feet right now. Current level is about 303.
